Latisse is the brand name of daily eye drops that you apply to the lash line. Applying Latisse with sterile applicators places the hormone-like liquid at the base of your upper lashes, which stimulates hair growth.
Over time, you’ll notice greater eyelash growth. You’ll also experience thicker and longer lashes. Normal eyelashes grow for a set time and then shed. However, Latisse increases the growing phase length and the number of hairs growing. During our Latisse consultation and treatment, we’ll provide guidelines specific to you.
Prescriptions for Lengthening Lashes
Most people think of dermatologists when they’re interested in a Latisse prescription. Nonetheless, it’s important to consult an optometrist before beginning the first phase of your six- to eight-week Latisse treatment program.
Bimatoprost, Latisse’s active ingredient, lowers intraocular pressure while it regulates the dilation and constriction of blood vessels in the eyelids. If a patient has preexisting eye conditions like uveitis and conjunctivitis, they aren’t a good candidate for an eyelash-lengthening prescription.
Additionally, if we find that a patient is at high risk for macular edema, has severe allergies or suffers from chronic skin infections of the upper eyelids, we don’t recommend the Latisse prescription.
Latisse Treatment Isn’t for Everyone
